St. Catherine of Siena
New Hudson, MI –June 12, 2009 – St. Catherine of Siena Academy Foundation is announcing that, as a result of economic and other conditions, the Dominican Sisters of Mary, Mother of the Eucharist, are no longer able to remain involved in the project to build a new Catholic girls’ high school in the Novi/Wixom area. After several years of concerted planning efforts, a variety of circumstances have arisen that will not permit the project to proceed as originally conceived. As a result, the Sisters are not able to further extend
their limited resources to the project. The Board is saddened by this turn of events but understands this decision on the part of the Sisters. The Foundation Board is appreciative of the Sisters time and energy in our developmental stages and we wish them well in the many other projects they are involved in locally and across the nation.
The Board of Directors recognizes the need still exists for an all-girls Catholic high school in the western portion of the Archdiocese of Detroit. In the 2005 the Bishops statement Renewing Our Commitment it is noted; “Our Young People are the Church of today and tomorrow. It is imperative that we provide them with schools ready to address their spiritual, moral, and academic needs. Our challenge today is to provide schools close to where our Catholic people live. In areas where there currently are no Catholic schools, we should open schools that have a mission to evangelize.” Because of this, the Foundation will continue working to open a school in the fall of 2010. Members of the board strongly believe in the mission of the Catholic Education to evangelize and we look forward to completing this work on behalf of the Church. The Board will continue to provide information on the progress of the project.
